Publish Your Book in 30 Days for $5,000

At Inkwell Studio, we are committed to a fully professional production of your book, from start to finish, in 30 days for the remarkably low price of $5,000. Usually when things sound too good to be true, it's because they're not true. But what allows us to proceed at this speed and economy in producing books is Inkwell's powerful book production technology.

In conventional publishing, once a book is copyedited (that is, its text is clean), it usually takes 6 to 9 months for the book to be published. We are able to accelerate this process because our technology seamlessly integrates writing, editing, collaborating, typesetting, notation handling, proofing, index creation, etc. within a single integrated software application that puts you, the author, in the driver's seat throughout your book's production.

Our price of $5,000 is ridiculously low given industry standards. $15,000 to $20,000 seems typical, and for production times of much longer than 30 days. $10,000 may get you a published book, but one that looks amateurish. Just as $5,000 is ridiculously inexpensive for a top quality typeset book, 30 days is ridiculously short for the time needed to produce a book.

To do your book for our basic fee of $5,000 and get it out the door in 30 days, here's what needs to happen:

  1. You'll need to subscribe to Inkwell.net's Standard or Pro Plan and upload your manuscript onto the Inkwell software application.
  2. You'll need to use Inkwell's collaboration feature to share your manuscript with our Inkwell Studio editorial team.
  3. We'll then assess the readiness of your manuscript to be published as a book.
  4. If your manuscript is reasonably clean, requiring only a light copyedit, we'll send you a book production service agreement.
  5. Once you sign it and pay Inkwell Studio the initial payment of $2,500, the clock starts ticking and we then have 30 days to produce your book.
  6. In that time, we'll do a light copyedit of your manuscript, typeset it, proof it, add an index (if desired by the author), and provide pdf and ePub files for your book, subject to two rounds of revisions by you.
  7. We'll also provide a cover design, which includes two rounds of design revisions requested by you, the author.
  8. Once you receive the pdf, ePub, and cover design files (the "deliverables"), you pay us the balance of $2,500, and we're done.

Practically speaking, however, there will be a bit more to get your book actually published:

  1. For a fully professional book, you need an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) for each format of your book (ebook, paperback, hardback, audio).
  2. For a fully professional book, you'll also need an LCCN (Library of Congress Control Number) -- only one because the LCCN applies to the title rather than the format of a book.
  3. Additionally, for a fully professional book, you'll want BISAC (Book Industry Standards and Communications) codes to categorize your book by subject (up to three such codes per book).
  4. For paperback and hardback versions of your book, you'll also need a barcode of its ISBN, to be placed on the back cover.
  5. If you want to self-publish your book or publish it with a publisher other than Inkwell Press, we'll show you how to get these numbers. But you will need to get them yourself, and doing so falls outside our 30-day production window.
  6. It will then also be on you or your publisher to insert this information into your files and upload them with Amazon and Ingram.
  7. On the other hand, if you publish your book with our publishing house, Inkwell Press, we'll handle all these details.
  8. But note, Inkwell Press is not a vanity press. Any agreement between you and Inkwell Press to publish your book will therefore be separate from your work with Inkwell Studio to get your book ready for publication. Also, the revenue share with Inkwell Press is 50-50% of net. If you self-publish, you get to keep the entire net profit. There are advantages to being published with a recognized publisher like Inkwell Press, but there are also advantages to self-publishing. We'll be transparent about your options here.

In light of all these points, a few reasonable conditions apply:

  1. In our basic book production plan (crossing the finish line in 30 days for $5,000), we are not going to be writing or rewriting your book. If your book needs an extensive rewrite, you will need a good development editor. We can help provide such an editor for you, but that will fall outside our basic plan.
  2. In our basic plan, we are not going to be doing heavy copyediting, such as filling in missing references or ensuring that references are consistent. We can provide a thorough copyedit for you, but that too will fall outside our basic plan.
  3. The basic plan applies only if your book is in a reasonable state of readiness.
  4. Additionally, your book needs to be of reasonable length and complexity, such as typical of books published by New York trade presses. Equations and technical notation are fine, but it will be on the author to ensure their correctness and appearance. Overly long and complicated books will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and may incur higher costs.
  5. Queries from Inkwell Studio to authors (such as about cover design) need to be answered within 48 hours. Longer response times mean that your book may not get done in 30 days.
  6. What if the two rounds of revisions for the pdf/ebook or for the cover design don't satisfy you? Further revisions will then be billed at $200 a revision. Moreover, the 30 day timeline will then be moot.
  7. What if you are on the basic plan and you quickly respond to our inquiries, but we don't get your book done in 30 days? In that case, we'll make a good faith effort to finish up your book as quickly as possible and won't charge you the balance of $2,500.
